Fiesta Island

 

Fiesta island is between Mission Bay park and Sea World. We go to the  island to ride the 4 mile loop many times. 

Other people bike, run, walk and skateboard (so cool). Some people fish,

 drive cars and play with  their dogs and kids.

 There is a big dog park on the island. 

In the water you can see crewing teams,

 jets skis (so cool), 

sail boats and other  boats too.

You can  see the big buildings in down town San Diego from the island.

We always see a white  heron on our bike rides.

Flamingos

Flamingos are the first animals you see at the zoo. They are pink or reddish color. They eat shrimp and other small water creatures. They have long legs to wade into deep water to look for food. 

They eat by holding their bill upside down in the water. They suck in mud and water at the front and pump it out at the sides. 
Flamingos are birds with feathers and wings.

They lay one egg at a time. The chick is born with gray down feathers.

Flamingos live together in groups. They fly together with their long necks stretched out and their long legs trailing behind.
                                           

Tigers

Tigers live in jungles, forests and grassy plains. Tigers are meat eaters. They like to eat deer, pigs, and baby elephants. 
They have orange black and white stripes and they have big strong front paws with 5 claws. 

Tiger cubs stay with their mom for 2 years. She teaches them to hunt. 
The biggest tigers come from Russia they can  be 750 pounds. The smallest are Sumantran tigers. They can be  400-450 pounds.  

At the zoo you can  listen to three tiger sounds -- the chuffle, quick roar and roar. 

Beware of tigers!

Polar Bears

 

In SanDiego you can see polar bear at the zoo and SeaWorld.

Polar bears eat seals and other meat. They will also eat people. So beware and watch out!

At the zoo they also eat yams and carrots.

Polar bears can dive and swim in the water.

In the wild they live in the cold arctic. Their fur is hollow like a little straw to keep them warm.

Polar bears have 1-3 babies at one time.  Polar cubs stay with their mom for two years.

Polar bears are big and tall. 

They can weigh more than 1500 pounds.

They have big furry paws and sharp claws to keep them from slipping on the ice.

Sea Lions

        

Sea lions are Mammals. They have hair, nurse their babies,breathe air and are warm blooded. 

They have teeth and eat fish.

They have ear flaps. (Seals have ear holes.) 

 

They have 20-30 whiskers. Sea lions can move their whiskers like we move our fingers.

The males are bigger than females. 

Sea lions can stay under water for 15 minutes.

 At Sea World some sea lions are in a show called "Sea Lions Live." 

They learn to: 

dive,

                                                              tap the trainer's leg,

                                          spank himself (for stealing a fish),

                                                                                            speak,

                                                                          act sad,

                                                                           wave,

                                                         














hold a ball on his nose,

                                                                          














and dance.
